MMBA Rising Star Nomination Process –FAQ’s

Each year at the Annual Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Installation Dinner we will feature rising young stars in the Massachusetts Mortgage industry.  Here are answers to common questions about the MMBA Rising Star program:

How can I submit an application?
The application period for the Rising Star class of 2024 closes on December 31st. Members can nominate by accessing the online nomination form here (Please note that you need MMBA password to sign in.)
Who’s eligible to be nominated?
For 2024, any person who is under 35 yrs. old on December 31st, 2023, who is an employee of an organization that is an active MMBA member is eligible.
What's the deadline?
Applications for 2024 are due on December 31st, 2023
What are the judges looking for?
Many factors are considered—including business success, community and professional leadership, work ethic and drive.
What is the selection process?
All applications are screened by MMBA Selection Committee to ensure all necessary information has been provided. In the initial screening, we narrow the group down to semifinalists. A panel of judges then reviews this group, weighing the factors mentioned above, until a consensus is reached on the finalists.
Can a Manager or colleague provide supporting letters?
Recommendation letters in support of your nomination application are welcome but not required. Letters must be submitted via email to dsousa@massmba.com. Please reference the Rising Star applicant in the subject line of the email. A maximum of two letters can be submitted.
Can I submit other supporting documentation (awards, certificates, etc.)?
Due to the high volume of applications we receive we can’t accept other supporting documents. Awards, designations, and other honors should be mentioned in the application. The Selection Committee will contact you if clarification or additional information is needed.
Why do you ask about ethics violations and state regulatory actions? Will either eliminate me from consideration?
Our Rising Star Honorees represent the next generation of industry leaders and as such they should set an example of professional and ethical behavior. An ethical violation or disciplinary action does not result in automatic disqualification. The editors will consider the circumstances and weigh the incident against other factors in your application.
Do I have to be a member of MMBA?
Yes. Only members of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Association are eligible to nominate. If you’re not already a member, you can join before the deadline and still submit an application.
How will I know if my application was received?
An e-mail will be sent to the address listed in the application to confirm receipt of the submitted form. If it’s determined that the application is incomplete or missing some information, a second e-mail will be sent.
How and when will I be notified of the judges’ decision?
All applicants will be notified of their status via e-mail in December/January.
Whom can I contact if I have more questions?
