2021 NEMBC COVID Policy


We are excited to welcome you to 34th New England Mortgage Bankers Conference in Newport, RI. NEMBC is committed to offering a safe, fulfilling, educational, and fun event for all attendees. However, for us to do so, we will need ALL attendees to cooperate and adhere to the below guidelines.

We are following all COVID-19 protocols set forth by the State of Rhode Island as well as Gurney’s Resorts response and the Centers For Disease Control. Please visit the hyperlinks for full information and details on all three. 

Conference attendees will be required to follow additional guidelines, which are below. (Note that ALL NEMBC staff attending the conference are fully vaccinated or received a negative COVID-19 test and will be wearing masks during volunteer hours.)  

If you have a fever or feel ill or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 within 10 days of the conference – PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE CONFERENCE.

To ensure comfort and safety for all attendees, NEMBC is implementing the below (as of October 18, 2021)

All attendees MUST provide proof of vaccination or negative test result taken within 72 hours of badge pickup. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), a person is considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine.

Accepted forms of proof of vaccination (accompanied by valid photo ID) include:

  • Original vaccination card
  • Photo of front of vaccination card
  • Photocopy of front of vaccination card

Upon arrival attendees MUST stop at the COVID SAFETY CHECK in the NEMBC registration area to present proof of vaccination or negative test with their photo ID to receive name badge. Your badge is your proof of vaccination/negative test and must be worn.

  • Masks are ENCOURAGED for ALL attendees, regardless of vaccination status, while moving around the conference areas.
  • Unvaccinated attendees should remain masked as much as possible.
  • For all other non-NEMBC event areas of Gurney’s, including bars and restaurants, attendees are encouraged to follow the Gurney’s COVID019 guidance.
  • This will be a handshake-free event. Feel free to be creative in how you greet your fellow attendee. Fist bump, elbow bump, foot bump – your choice!
  • Frequent hand washing is encouraged, masks and hand sanitizer will be available at each session as well as at NEMBC's registration desk. Gurney’s has numerous hand sanitizing stations around the public areas of the property.
  • Attendees must notify NEMBC staff (Debbie Sousa at  or 617.570.9114) if you   becomes ill during or up to 10 days after the conference or have tested positive for COVID-19.

Note that COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease that comes with the risk of severe illness and death, and there is always the inherit risk of exposure when in public spaces. Full information on COVID-19, including information on high-risk populations, can be found on the Centers for Disease Control’s website. By voluntarily attending NEMBC's in-person events, attendees assume all risks related to the exposure to COVID-19.
